LA Weekly Jennifer Finch's 1980's Los Angeles punk photography photo essay

Jennifer Finch (L7) came to us with a collection of amazing photographs never seen before and I was lucky enough to get to create the layout for this iconic issue. In addition to the cover and photo layouts, LA Weekly hosted a gallery show that presented many of these photos as well as blow ups of the newspaper cover, which were all stolen by the end of the night. That is how I knew I designed a good cover. This was my first cover ever.

The photo essay chronicals life in the 1980's LA Punk scene featuring early photographs of Black Flag, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mike Ness, Bad Religion as well as many other faces and stories that had never seen the light of day before this feature. I was told this was the most destroyed the LA Weekly masthead has ever looked. I couldn't be more proud.
